Producer
Vista Hermosa is a small 1.8-hectare farm in Huehuetenango, one of Guatemala’s highest and driest coffee-growing regions. Warm, dry winds coming from Mexico’s Tehuantepec plain protect the mountains from frost, allowing coffee to grow at very high elevations.
Armin Lopez Mejia is a second-generation producer who has been working with coffee from an early age. He has been running Vista Hermosa since 2008, gradually developing the farm with a strong focus on quality.
Processing
After picking, the cherries are pulped and dry-fermented for 24 to 32 hours before being washed.
Armin processes the coffee directly on the farm, something common in remote Huehuetenango where many producers operate their own wet mills. His mill also includes a wastewater treatment pit, helping reduce the impact of processing water on local soil and water sources.
